What happens when you get one incredibly grumpy bear, and some goslings? One hilarious story with humor both kids and adults will get.What's a grumpy bear to do when he happens to go shopping through the forest for some eggs to cook up, and accidentally gets goose eggs that are about to hatch? Poor Bruce finds himself in quite a predicament when the eggs he was going to cook up and eat, end up hatching, and calling him mom. This hilarious case of mistaken identity leads Bruce on a wild goose chase to rid himself of these adventurous geese. It doesn't take long before these babies grow up to be teens, and Bruce is stuck with the task of taking care of them.It appears that there's more to this grumpy bear, than his grumpiness. Just don't tell Bruce that you may end up loving his story, and all he does for these geese. He may not like it. This story is down right hilarious! Not to mention the illustrations are adorable. This is one book definitely worth picking up.
Fun book! Bruce, a grumpy bear who loves to cook eggs, is mistaken as the mother of goslings who were to be his meal. The goslings are instantly attached to Bruce to his displeasure. Bruce tries in very comical ways to rid himself of his accidental dependents. After several attempts to regain his independence, he finally decides to embrace his newly formed family and make the best of it. The expressions drawn on Bruce's face and the goslings' faces make the book really fun. This story by Ryan Higgins is humorous and should be entertaining to preschoolers and young readers as well as adult readers who have the pleasure of sharing it with little ones. I highly recommend this book to parents, grandparents, and teachers who love to read to children.
I was in Key West on vacation last year and stopped into Books & Books, the bookstore that Judy Blume runs. I didn't really know what I was looking for, but I like children's literature, so Judy recommended Mother Bruce. I LOVED IT. I've given it to so many expecting parents, neighborhood children having birthdays, and young family members that I now just keep a couple copies on hand to give away when the occasion arises. And it's really cool to be able to tell the parents, "You remember reading Judy Blume's books as a kid? She told me about this book! And she was SO RIGHT."
We LOVE this book. We borrowed it from our local library and fell in love with it immediately. My son who just turned three was so excited to get it for his birthday. My three year old and my five year old love this book and have me read it almost everyday. My son will laugh so hard when we are reading it. I would definitely recommend this product to others. It is cute, heartwarming and funny! I plan to buy this for some of my nieces and nephews for Christmas! It is a quick read so its not a big deal when my kids want me to read it again and again.
This is a great book. It is absolutely hilarious. I actually bought it for my husband, Bruce, so he could read it to our grandkids. The bear reminds me a little of my husband. He would like to be grumpy but he just can't resist a cute face. Especially a persistent one! The story is wonderful and the illustrations are perfect. Great book for everyone.
Higgins illustrations are amazing. I'd buy this book for those alone. There is so much detail, vivid imagery, and vibrant colors.This is combined with fun characters that parents and kids can love, and a nice sense of humor that can be appreciated by all ages. This book is a pleasure to read at bedtime. It's a fun little story of a grumpy bear who unexpectedly becomes responsible for a flock of geese. We have one other of Higgins books (my personal favorite 'Be Quiet!') so I bought this one as an Easter present for my kids. I plan on buying more from Higgins and seeing how the character develop along their adventures. My children are 5, 4, and 2 1/2 years old and love this author, but even myself and my husband chuckle and enjoy reading this book.
Wow. A future classic. This is likely the funniest children's book available! Parents and children laugh aloud as they turn each page!The Illustrations alone deserve their own exhibit. The attention to detail will reveal something you hadn't seen each time you read it. The story creatively illustrates the follies of animal behavior and evolutionary biology that befall a bear and his dinner. Hilarity ensues and you laugh as you and your children learn how this bear solves problems.This will likely be your child's new favorite bedtime story. So much laughter they'll be ready to hibernate when it's over, seriously!My wife and I like this book so much we've bought several additional copies as gifts for our friends to read with their children this Christmas.Do not miss this wonderful literary adventure!
I'm not a great judge of the best books for kids, but I like this one and I can imagine the parents of the recipients enjoying the story as much as their kids. It was recommended in the WSJ as one of the best books for kids for 2018 which is how I found out about it.Please note that if the price here on Amazon is still exorbitant, the Scholastic books website recently had the paperback for about $5; I found like-new hardcover copies at 2nd and Charles for $7.
I had never come across this book, until the author did a visit to our local elementary school. Besides being a heck of a nice guy, this man has the best sense of humor...which comes across in this book. This tale of a snack-gone-wrong had me belly laughing. Every illustration is intentional and hysterical. I liked it so much I purchased one for myself, and this one and the sequel "Hotel Bruce" for my nieces and nephews.
