I'm a 4th generation Washington, DC, native on my father's side. His great-grandparents arrived in DC from Germany in the 1840s. Incredibly, 2 of the houses they lived in are still standing. This book showed me the places they lived and worked - probably not the actual places, but the neighborhoods. Most have been demolished and replaced by government buildings. The photos show the beautiful architecture of residential areas, as well as the commercial ones. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in Washington, DC history.
In a nutshell, if you like pictures, especially old ones, then you will enjoy this photo book. I love the old pictures of Washington D.C., New York and Philadelphia and just enjoy seeing what looked like a better time. This is one of the three I ordered about old Washington D.C. photos and they all follow the what I've stated above.
Great booklet on our Nation's Capital when the Mall was a swamp. Love her history! Worked in DC for over 40 years and so many nooks and crannies to see there.
